Bouncing back after the holidays

Well, Christmas is over (ugly cry) and now we are on to New Year’s celebrations. Right about now, you’re probably panicking about fitting in to the outfit you picked out for yourself. Hate to break it to ya but you’re not going to miraculously lose 20 pounds in 4 days. But you can probably drop some water weight or lose the bloat from the holidays.

Here are my top 5 ways for bouncing back after the holidays.

Get back on schedule

Normally, I have a pretty regular routine. Wake up at 6:00 am, workout, shower, eat breakfast, start my day, finish my day, go to bed at 10:30 pm. When my schedule gets thrown off, it’s easy to come back to this routine because it’s already established. The key is creating a healthy routine in the first place. If you haven’t already, create a schedule that is sustainable and realistic for yourself.

Practice some self-control

You’ve had all the goodies, right? Okay, now let’s get some balance back in our lives. Stay away from those salty, high-fat, high-calorie snacks for a few days (this is my recommendation). You know that saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”? That applies here to food, too. Practice mindful eating. Are you eating because you are hungry or because you’re bored? I’m all for anti-diet and eating what my body needs. But after a heavy holiday season, my body usually needs less sweet and salty, more fruits and veggies. Give yourself a couple days to reset. It won’t kill you 🙂

Get adequate rest (maybe that means saying no to a couple plans)

Our bodies were thrown off track this week. We didn’t sleep enough and we are exhausted. Get some rest. Say no to plans, if you have to. Spend a night pampering yourself with clean pajamas, a face mask, hot shower, or some hot tea. Get yourself to bed.

Meal plan/prep

Set your meals for the week. Maybe you just rushed back in to town and your refrigerator is completely empty. run out to the grocery store and grab a couple packs of pre-made salad, some apples or any other fruit and a few vegetables. If you have time to meal plan or meal prep, do it! For more help with this, click here to schedule an appointment.

Be patient with yourself and allow your body to come back

You won’t see a change necessarily over night. Don’t self-sabotage just because you didn’t lose all the holiday weight in 1/8th of the time it took you to put it all on. Be patient. Love yourself and don’t give up. You’re beautiful and worthy of your love.
