Tips for Following a Heart Healthy Diet

  • Limit intake of saturated and trans fat
  • Eat a well balanced diet with lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and low fat dairy
  • Choose more healthy fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
  • Limit intake of sodium
  • Limit intake of refined carbohydrates


Sample Breakfasts for Heart Healthy Diet

1 cup oatmeal

1 cup fat-free milk

1 cup blueberries

1 ounce almonds

2 slices whole grain toast

3 oz low sodium smoked salmon

1 tablespoon low fat cream cheese

1 slice tomato

1 cup strawberries

Vegetable omelet

1/4 avocado, sliced

1 slice whole grain bread
